Highlight of the Swatch MTV Playground will be an ‘art battle’ in association with Vice and DJBroadcast that sees artists go head to head on canvas against the clock. Fighting it out on September 5th to create the best and most original work will be Dutch illustrators Menno Mans and Stefan Glerum and the MC and host for the battle will be Lyrical Tie.

Menno Mans

Menno Mans is an illustrator and filmmaker born in Amsterdam. After studying at the Netherlands Film and Television School, he has worked as an illustrator on flyers, posters and storyboards. In addition, he has worked as a cameraman on several short films and commercials.

Swatch + Art

Swatch has had a strong connection with contemporary art right from its beginnings. Akin to the pop art of modern times, Swatch watches have been inspired by popular culture, and Swatch itself soon became a canvas for world famous artists, musicians and fashion designers.

One of the first major artists to collaborate with Swatch was Keith Haring

Swatch’s playful and creative approach to the arts continues to inspire the most innovative and exciting of today’s – and tomorrow’s – artists and designers. The Swiss fashion watch and jewelry maker has asked four internationally known artists to contribute to the exciting story of Swatch and Art by creating several new watches to enrich the Swatch CreArt Collection. New York City based ‘Urban Primitivist’ Billy The Artist; noted painter, sculptor and writer Ted Scapa; the prolific graphic artist and designer Matthew Langille, and French street painter and rapper Grems have together created a total of twelve new works for ‘the world’s smallest canvas’.
