Studio 80 is a strange phenomenon on the touristy Rembrandtplein. As it is stowed between a couple of vast but largely irrelevant cafés, you can easily pass its black doors blindly. Those doors lead you down an equally black corridor, culminating in two medium-sized halls were, as they say, “the magic happens.”

The venue started as the toy project of ID&T party mogul Duncan Stuttenheim (the celebrated sound system is the same as his living room’s) to offer new talent a place to develop and grow. New Amsterdam talent like Daniel Sanchez, Kabale und Liebe, and Lauhaus started out here, but also international names like Dave Ellesmere and Chris Liebing have graced the stage.

Since a lot of different party crews organize different events here, it depends on the organization for what kind of crowd you’ll find here. Depending on the night, you could meet hip art-school youngsters dancing the night away to poppy electro, land amidst the super-gay monthly phenomenon M.U.L.T.I.S.E.X.I. (already past its heyday), or simply be pleasurably immersed in trendy techno.
