The Dampkring’s 15 minutes of fame came and went when it was used as a location for Ocean’s Twelve in 2004, and now it seems content with living in the past.

The interior decoration has a Mucha-esque feel, with wooden swirls and fantastic carvings everywhere. Too bad this graceful vibe is marred by the scene from Ocean’s Twelve screening on a loop. De Dampkring is part of a small franchise of coffee shops and head, seed and grow shops throughout the center of Amsterdam, which includes its predecessor De Tweede Kamer, another Dampkring on the Haarlemmerstraat and a shop for marijuana paraphernalia on the Prins Hendrikkade.

The Dampkring’s contribution to coffee shop history is successfully introducing a home-grown weed called Orange Bud in 1985. It’s a fairly atmospheric place and preferable to the crass commercialism of other shops, but you just can’t help but wish they’d get over Brad, Matt and George already.Quote_transparent

A smoker's guide to Mokum The down low on getting high

What coffeeshop tour would be complete without a stop-off at this place, which appears in Ocean's 12? As if that wasn't enough, the menu here is phenomenal.
