Ironically enough, this premier gallery for contemporary art is located in the Warmoesstraat, the oldest surviving street of Amsterdam. From its inception in 1979 until this current day, W139 has hosted 425 shows, put together by 1,678 artists.

Besides its gallery function, W139 also organizes a lecture series on diverse topics like how to become a good art collector or the role of art theory in an ever-changing and turbulent society.
